The Mark Degree is now the third-largest in English Masonry.
El Grado de Marca es ahora el tercero más grande en la Masonería Inglesa.
The ceremony of admission is called ‘advancement’ and deals with the building of King Solomon’s Temple, and chronologically follows that of Fellow Craft. It is one of the oldest and most fascinating degrees in Freemasonry and actually comprises two degrees. Firstly the candidate is acknowledged as a Mark Man and immediately thereafter advanced as a Mark Master Mason in the same ceremony.
La ceremonia de admisión se llama “avance”, trata de la construcción del Templo del Rey Salomón y sigue cronológicamente a la del Compañero Mason. Es uno de los grados más antiguos y fascinantes de la masonería y en realidad consta de dos grados. En primer lugar, el candidato es reconocido como “Hombre de Marca” e inmediatamente después avanza como “Maestro Masón de Marca” en la misma ceremonia.
As speculative Mark Masons, our lively and enjoyable ceremony of today is known to be well over 200 years old and in those olden days, the degree was conferred in Craft Lodges or within Royal Arch Chapters up until the formation of the United Grand Lodge of England in 1813. In time an independent Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons came into being in 1856.
Como Masones especulativos de Marca, se sabe que nuestra ceremonia animada y agradable de hoy tiene más de 200 años y en esos días antiguos el grado se confería en Logias de Emulación o dentro de Capítulos del Arco Real hasta la formación de la Gran Logia Unida de Inglaterra en 1813. Con el tiempo, en 1856 se creó una Gran Logia independiente de Maestro Masones de Marca.
The Mark Degree is centred on the ancient practises of operative stonemasons who in preparing stones for the construction of buildings, marked each stone with their own unique mark to identify their work and entitlement to wages. From this we are taught order, regularity, diligence, and discipline; and as the Fellow Craft Degree in the Craft, it is less concerned with the past and future, but more with the here and now of our present life and contemplation of human strength and weakness, and affirms that no man is beyond redemption, with the possibility of distinction always within our grasp.
El Grado de Marca se centra en las antiguas prácticas de los masones operativos que al preparar las piedras para la construcción de edificios, marcaban cada piedra con su única propia marca para identificar su trabajo y su derecho a recibir salarios. De esto se nos enseña orden, regularidad, diligencia y disciplina. Al igual que el Grado de Compañero en el Oficio, se preocupa menos por el pasado y el futuro, pero más por el aquí y ahora de nuestra vida presente, por la contemplación de la fuerza, de la debilidad humana y afirma que ningún hombre está más allá de la redención, con la posibilidad de distinción siempre a nuestro alcance.
The symbol of the degree is a Keystone on which are engraved certain mystic letters, the meaning of which is revealed during the ceremony.
