s we reflect on the incredible response to the recent natural disaster in Spain last October, we are filled with gratitude for the generosity and determination shown by our Masonic community. Thanks to a generous donation from the Mark Benevolent Fund, we’ve been able to provide both immediate help and long-term support to those affected.
In October 2024, Spain was struck by a devastating natural disaster. Heavy rain caused severe flooding across multiple regions, destroying homes, businesses, and infrastructure. Sadly, lives were lost, and many families were displaced, facing the daunting task of starting over.
In the aftermath of the disaster, we sprang into action. The District of Spain Mark Master Masons, along with the GRAND LODGE OF SPAIN and other local Masonic bodies, worked together to provide aid. The donation was at the heart of these efforts, allowing us to deliver essential supplies such as non-perishable food, water, and equipment to those in need.
The Mark Benevolent Fund’s generous contribution has been essential in supporting the work of the District of Spain Mark Master Masons and the Grand Lodge of Spain. It has allowed us to offer both immediate relief and long-term help, giving hope and support to families devastated by the disaster. The kindness and commitment shown by the Fund reflect the true spirit of charity and brotherly love within our community. With their help, we’ve been able to respond quickly and effectively, providing families with the support they need to rebuild their lives.
As the immediate crisis began to ease, we shifted our focus to helping families rebuild. The DANA Flood Relief Committee worked closely with local authorities and alongside the Province of Valencia from the Grand Lodge of Spain to identify the most vulnerable families in Aldaia, one of the hardest-hit towns. Thanks to continued support, we have been able to help four families with vital home repairs, including replacing furniture, kitchens, and white goods. One family even received a new front door after theirs was destroyed by floodwaters.
On average, each family has received €6,000 to help with repairs and get back to their daily lives. This donation, along with contributions from other Masonic bodies, has made a real difference in helping families restore their homes and their futures.
The generosity of the Masonic community has been overwhelming. The donation has allowed us to extend our efforts beyond immediate aid, providing long-term support to those in need.
In addition to the rebuilding work, we teamed up with the Provincial Royal Arch Chapter of Valencia to distribute over 200 toys to children in Aldaia during the 3 Kings celebration. It was a small gesture, but it made a big difference in bringing some joy to the children at such a difficult time.
While we’ve made great strides in the recovery process, our work is far from over. The DANA Flood Relief Committee continues to assess the ongoing needs of affected families, and we remain committed to helping as much as we can. In the coming months, we hope to assist at least three more families and continue to explore ways we can support those still struggling.
Once again, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved for their incredible generosity. Your contributions have made a lasting impact, not only by providing immediate relief but also by helping families rebuild their homes and their lives. The efforts of the District of Spain Mark Master Masons, the Grand Lodge of Spain, and our wider Masonic family have truly showcased the spirit of charity, brotherhood, and solidarity that defines Freemasonry.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Together, we are making a real difference. We’re stronger together.
