Mark Masonry is a branch of Freemasonry that focuses on the symbolism of the Mark Degree, which highlights themes of diligence, honesty, and integrity. It builds on the teachings of Craft Masonry and is open to Master Masons. The ceremonies often centre around the story of the building of King Solomon’s Temple, emphasising the value of every individual’s contribution.

Membership in Mark Masonry is open to Master Masons who belong to a recognised Craft Lodge. Candidates must also be in good standing within their Craft Lodge and express a desire to further explore Masonic teachings through the Mark Degree.

The ‘Mark’ refers to the personal mark that ancient stonemasons would carve into their work to identify it. Symbolically, in Mark Masonry, it represents an individual’s unique contributions and the importance of personal responsibility and recognition.

Mark Masonry is governed by the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of England and Wales and its Districts and Lodges Overseas. Lodges meet regularly to confer degrees, conduct business, and foster fellowship among members.

Mark Masonry is considered a progressive order that complements Craft Masonry. While Craft Masonry teaches foundational principles, the Mark Degree adds further depth by focusing on the allegory of the keystone, teamwork, and the moral lessons derived from the operative craft.
